Westoboro Baptist is at it again.  The Topeka, Kansas based "HATE CHURCH" is ready to picket the funeral of the 9 year old girl shot in the senseless Tucson massacre last Saturday morning.

You're going to picket the funeral of a 9 year old girl?

I don't really know how I feel right now.  Parts of me are so angry when people are filled with such anger.  It's almost like somehow they are either

1.  Trying to get more air time because someone is funding this nonsense.

2.  They have so much hate and hopelessness in their heart they don't know how to funnel it into something productive.

I don't know that Jesus would EVER be picketing a funeral, even a funeral of a mass killer.
I don't know that Jesus would EVER be seen working through the crowd of sinners accusing them of a lifestyle that doesn't work the way He saw it.
In fact, I think the Bible is pretty clear when John wrote, "For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."  (John 3:17)

It's interesting how many people want to take it upon themselves this righteous war of condemnation.  The only people Jesus really got angry with while on this planet were those who thought themselves more highly than they should have.  It was the religious leaders trying to condemn the world who achieved the divine status of "white washed tombs," "vipers," and "blind guides" we must take note.

This is eggregious behavior, and I'm sick of watching people twist the love God may have for those who will trust Him, into this circus show.  No, Fred Phelps, it's not the 9 year old girl who will be sad on judgement day. The sadness will overcome those who believe deeply they do the will of God, and on judgment day It will be Jesus who looks to them and says, "Depart from me, I never knew you."

  1. Wow..that just makes my heart so sad when I see stories like that. We are supposed to be glorifying God, living like Jesus did…this church group does just the opposite and paints a very distrubing and false image of the church in general.
It’s unfortunate that churches with diseased doctrines such as this one will get a lot more media coverage than those that are out, risking their lives, going out into the darkest corners of the earth to bring the light and love and hope of the gospel to others.
    How sad.

  2. Geez, this is truly heartbreaking. It must be so horrifying to see these people outside such a sad event.
The ironic thing is that Jesus himself NEVER even condemned gay marriage. These hatemongers are both despicable AND inaccurate. It’s good that there are upstanding Christians who remind us all that Jesus is about LOVE and FORGIVENESS, not homophobia and close-mindedness.
    You go, Andy!
