I was driving the kids to school this morning, and on the radio came the continued debate of the Tucson murder that happened this weekend.  The talking heads were trying to point fingers at Sarah Palin, the Tea Party, Fox News, and Bill O'Reilly.  I sat there on the drive and wondered, "Where in the world has personal responsibility gone?  Why do we want to blame someone else for the cause of an offense?  It seems like a part of the world continues to end when humanity is looking to make sense of the evil that happens.  Or does it?"

Auburn won the BCS Championship.  (enough said)

Pundits are continuing to rattle on and an about the December 12 – 2012 prediction.

Britney Spears has another mundane song on the radio. (enough said)

Iran is closer to a nuclear weapon.
Israel and Palenstine are still waring.
The poverty statistics aren't getting any better.
Human Trafficking is still a Giant Problem in our world.
And it seems the stats on teenage issues continue to point to problems rather than solutions.

Is this the end of the world as we know it on 1-11-11?

I was standing in line for coffee after dropping the kids off, and one of the women in front of me mumbled under her breath, "Who would want to bring someone in this world?  It's terrible now."  She was staring three people in front of us at the pregnant woman trying to handle her order and the three kids around her.

All these issues have profound consequences to the state of the Union we live in, and most can be reduced down to one epiphany idea…"Hope!"

Where is the hope in the world today?

A year ago tomorrow the devastating earthquake shook the island nation of Haiti.  Most of my friends agree the little country will NEVER return back to the state it was previously.  It's just horrific to see the hopelessness in the eyes of the Haiti nationals.

I have a friend stationed on the border of North/South Korea.  His comment to me, "Andy, you just need to stare in the eyes of the North Koreans for a while and you see the desperation they face every day."

Where is the hope in the world today?

I'm in a wonderful e-mail conversation with a friend over several of these kinds of issues.  I think I can help provide hope when I read Jesus' statement in Matthew, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (v.28-30)

Where else can my soul find rest?
Where more can the world make sense?
How can we find an ample replacement than the creator of the Universe who desires to live life WITH us, not AT us?

If you're looking for hope in the world today, look no further.  For just as the Jesus invites you to a rest in Him, Paul reiterates in Ephesians 1, "For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves." (v.4-6)

Before the beginning of the Universe, He offered the adoptive process for you to become part of His family.  God is interested in giving you rest.  He's interested in the family dynamic around His table.  He wants to know you, and as you get to know Him, you'll see hope is only slight shift in your paradigm today.

The End Of The World as We Know it?  I don't think so.   I have Hope for the future.
