But that's just not the case!!
I've had touch points with world leaders from now and again, and entering the event is a BIG deal.
All of them have a group of people who follow them around, some necessary assistants, but most are just there to give an ambiance of popularity.
Sometimes there are crowns
Most of the time there's some kind of theme
In fact, there are jobs in the world whose central reason for existing is to make leaders look great to the public.
Well, as I continue plowing through Matthew, I came across Jesus' Jerusalem entry. Believe me, I've read this section thousands of times before, but I just started thinking about what this really might have looked like, just this morning.
As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying
to them, "Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a
donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to
me. If anyone says anything to you, tell him that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away."
The King of the Universe is going to enter into Jerusalem, His final entry, leading Him to the cross…ON A DONKEY??
I was thinking today, I wonder how many ministry leaders today would ride from event to event on a donkey?? HA!!
I was with a group of High Profile Christian Ministers a few years ago, and I was amazed at how they were trying to compare which Jet they had. HA!! A far cry from the Donkeys of old huh?
Another reason I believe Christianity has a wonderful play on the reconciliation of the world. Jesus' message is for everyone. He didn't chose to sit on the ivory tower to tell us what to do, He decided to come and live with the people. He didn't live AT the people.
No other 'god' in the history of religion has given such grace and mercy to his people.
May we be a people who find security in the fact that God knows what we go through.
He didn't fly a G650 to the crucifixion.
No, He lived like a regular guy, and rode a DONKEY to the most important event in history.
