Want To Be Great In God’s Kingdom?

Servant

Here I am in Enid Oklahoma, thinking about what God wants from me today.  I'm praying for His will to be done.  I'm seeking His face this morning.  And I came to Matthew 20.

Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him.

"What is it you want?" he asked.
She said, "Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom."

"You don't know what you are asking," Jesus said to them. "Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?"
      "We can," they answered.

 Jesus
said to them, "You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my
right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for
whom they have been prepared by my Father."

When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers. Jesus
called them together and said, "You know that the rulers of the
Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority
over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." (Matthew 20:20-28)

Isn't it strange, sometimes we ask "God what do you want me to do for you today?" in some sort of 'Hey God, Look at Me' way.  As believers in the pool of faith, we wish so dearly that our heavenly Father would look down on us and give approval for whatever we choose to do with our lives.

But I think today, God is whispering a simple, sweet message to my soul.

It isn't about how much you do for me.
It isn't all about how many boxes you can check off in the religious circles.
No, this Kingdom is all about servant hood.

It's not about serving to be noticed.
Or serving to be great.
It's about serving people because the King of Kings decided to come down to earth and serve mankind.

And, if I want my life to be about being closer to Jesus; then I need to allow my life to model what He modeled.

For if God can come and live life WITH us and not AT us, surely I can live a life WITH others.

I'm off to a Men's Bible study here in Enid.
I'm excited to serve those guys this morning, for no other reason, that I want to know about their lives.
I want to know what makes them do what they do.
I want to live life WITH people.

God bless you today!!

  1. Andy-
Thanks so much for sharing with us today in E-town. What a great message you guys are imparting to the kids – it is more than important. My Bible classes loved it, and we hope to have you back sometime. I’m loving your reading list as well, it’s fun to run across a kindred spirit. God bless your family and your ministry.

Let me know what you think
