Isn't this awesome!! You can almost feel the sense of accomplishment as one of our rafting guides finished navigating one of the hardest rapids on the river, without falling over in this open boat.
When I saw this picture, I just started thinking about how much value there is in developing little moments of accomplishment. It's so important, isn't it? To have a goal and overcome and obstacle, it's such an important part of life, especially when you walk through life trying to navigate our spiritual successes and failures.
So many times in my life, I've seen huge spiritual obstacles, and often feel as if they are impassable; but with persistence and God's overwhelming grace, I've found several monumental successes that build confidence in my own faith.
One of the great stories of faith found in Mark 9, is when a man brings his son to Jesus' disciples for healing. Evidently he was possessed, and the disciples prayed and prayed for the boy to be healed, but tragically they couldn't help him. The man goes to Jesus, and the story reads…
Jesus asked the boy's father, "How long has he been like this?"
"From childhood," he answered. "It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us."" 'If you can'?" said Jesus. "Everything is possible for him who believes."
Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!"
And Jesus healed the young boy.
It's one thing to believe, but all together another to have faith that can move mountains.
I believe it takes a strong individual to recognize a lack of faith, and even more strength to ask for help when there are small areas of unbelief in our lives.
May we be humble enough to ask for help.
May we know the giver of life, and the healer of our soul.
God help me in my unbelief, so I can see your miraculous workings in the world.
May we have concrete examples of people who have navigated life's spiritual hurdles, and be confident enough to walk with them.
