In my constant desire to follow Jesus, it intrigues me that the three monotheistic religions of the world continue to fight over land, resources, and power. It's almost as if all three try to preach 'peace' and 'love your neighbor,' yet all three are an inch away from blowing up the world all together at any given time.
I realize there are significant differences in theology, and the followers of all three are dedicated to making sure 'their team' is the right team, and all three are dedicated to the recruiting of the most followers.
In Christianity we are following Jesus' commandment to 'make disciples of all nations' but guess what…the Muslim faith has a similar commandment in the Q'uran. So how do we live together on planet earth with so many differences? Surely the answer isn't to just allow one to blow up the other. That seems contradictory to Jesus, doesn't it?
So how do we accomplish both missions when each 'team' feels like their story is the only one that leads to ultimate spiritual paradise? How do we live on this planet together?
I'm at a meeting with Religious leaders on both sides right now, and I wish I could video this. It's very interesting as both sides of the debate are relentless in trying to figure out how to follow Jesus and His commands for our lives.
I'll be sharing more as the meeting progresses, but I'm telling you, with a little understanding, and a little fleshing out, there might be a way to salvage relationships in the midst of difference. Maybe?? I don't know how it's going to play out, but I believe God is still on the throne of heaven and earth, and He alone can bring people together to at least have a conversation to at least be neighbors. I'm still a bit skeptical, but We'll see.
In the meantime. What do you think?
