"When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them" (Acts 2:1-3)
Can you imagine what it must have been like to watch Jesus be crucified, go to the tomb and see the emptiness, watch Him ascend into heaven, and then be sitting in the upper room just mulling over what in the world you've done wasting the last three years of your life following a strange man from a strange place who has nothing but strange stories to tell?
It must have been overwhelming to the disciples involved.
Then all of the sudden the sound like a blowing wind came into the house, and the Holy Spirit, the Counselor Jesus spoke of only a few weeks earlier, rushed into the room, and things got REALLY CRAZY!
People began talking in tongues.
Confusion began to reign about them.
And then Peter stood up and gave the sermon of a lifetime. (check it out Acts 2)
I guess the point today is, this is the calendar story of what would be going on right now. I mean Easter weekend was a few weeks back, but Pentecost weekend is upon us. Just as we celebrated Jesus' resurrection at Easter, our family plans on celebrating the gift of the Holy Spirit on earth. As we observe the Faith calendar this year, it's just a good reminder, God loves to inject the Supernatural on the Natural.
May you have a wonderful Pentecost weekend, and share in the spirit as the apostles did back in Acts. Just like Peter said,
'In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
and they will prophesy.
I will show wonders in the heaven above
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
The sun will be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved
