Last night was the first time I'd ever heard of Leonard Abess Jr. It was during the Presidential address to the country, and President Obama pointed out Mr. Abess, the banker in Florida.
Mr. Abess evidently sold his shares in City National Bank, a small bank out of Miami, and he ended up getting a cool $60 Million from the sale.
But instead of just hording the $60 Million, Mr Abess went out and found 399 people that weren't going to get bonuses last year, and gave them a portion of the cash. He even went out and found 72 others he'd known lost their jobs, and gave them some cash too.
Now, far be it from me to tell someone how to spend their own hard earned cash, but this story really gave me a picture of someone who cares about something else far besides the bottom line.
And you konw what??
With a selfless heart, the leadership of the freeworld stood up last night in the capital building, and applauded this man for his generosity.
Jesus said, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." Luke 12:15
I don't know the state of your heart Mr. Abess, but that sure was a great story for people in a world where economics seems to rule the headlines. Way to go!!
