Talk about a firestorm!! President Elect Obama asks Rick Warren to say a prayer at the upcoming inauguration, and He gets absolutely obliterated in the Media.  Obama gets ugly articles.  Warren gets ugly articles.

It's just down right UGLY!

And how unfortunate.

To you Conservatives:  Here we sit on the verge of something absolutely profound, and you've drawn your bows and swords at a man (Warren) who actually can help bring sense to some of the issues you want Obama to focus on.  No matter what you think, Warren will have Obama's ear on these delicate policies.  I believe we all want people in the oval office that can stand up for the rights of the unborn, and be defenders of marriage.

To you who are called Liberals, here you sit on the verge of a President interested in including more than opinion at the table.  Have you forgotten the last 8 years of isolation?  Do you remember the words you used to use like "uni-lateral."  Here is a President that is trying to change that.

When will be a people that can get over our presuppositions and get down to business?  When are we going to let what we know about Pastor Warren play out.  He's not bending his ideals on abortion or Gay Marriage.
He's been invited to pray.

Pray for our leader.
Pray for our nation.
Pray for an administration that has some different social agendas that many are opposed to.

In fact, he tried to clear the air.  How many of you have seen this?

I know what it's like to be in the middle of the firestorm.
I know what it feels like when the very people you try to help come and slice their pound of flesh off your ministry.
I know what it's like to be mis-understood.
I know what its like to be guilty by association.  But Hey… I guess we're in Good company.

Jesus said, "If the World Hates You, Remember, It hated me first." (John 15:18) So when the heat gets hotter, it must mean we're getting closer to the heart of God.

The Pharisees also called Jesus a "man who is gluttonous, a drunkard, and a friend of tax collectors and sinners."  (Luke 7:34) I wonder what that made God feel like?  Here he sent His only Son to save the world, and the leaders of the faith tried to assassinate His character.

It's no fun to be in the middle of a firestorm.
It's not at all God's intent.
In fact, the verse right before that commanded believers "This is my command, that you love one another."  (v.17)

Pastor Rick, I pray for you today.
I'm hopeful that your influence on the political world will continue to show God's reconciled plan for humanity.  My prayer is that the world might see the Love of the gospel played out in your actions, in your life, and in your prayer on Jan. 20th.

I have made a commitment to keep this blog clean and clear of slander.  I will not be part of a place that belittles others; no matter who they are.  Rather; in the form and fashion of Jesus, no matter what; I want to be a co-laborer of the gospel.  A place where people can come to Love God, "With all their heart, with all their soul, and with all their mind; This is the First and Greatest Commandment. AND the second is like it, That we Love our neighbor as ourselves."

May we be a people who continue to dwell in the presence of God and not allow the rumors and gossip of others drive our lives.
May we hide His word in our hearts, that we might live a life worthy of the gospel.
May we pray for those in leadership and authority over us, that they may have the wisdom only God can give.
And…
May we keep our eyes and ears open on this long journey called life, as God reveals Himself to us in new ways each day.

Let me know what you think
