Ok, I'm definitely not interested in becoming a gossip columnist for the Young Hollywood scene, but I just couldn't pass this one up today.  Britney Spears has just finished a documentary for MTV about her life, covering the last few "CRAZY" years.  (or I guess depending on how you look at it, they've all been a little nuts.)

Anyway, as I was reading the article describing the content of this documentary coming out, I was drawn to a few issues I heard resonating with the ministry I've been trying to communicate to teenagers.  Mainly….

It's not about alcohol.
It's not about drugs.
It's not about sex.
It's not about porn.
It's not about friends.
It's not about where you hang out on Friday or Saturday night.

The deepest seeded issue in the lives of young people today is LONELINESS!

When asked about her romantic with Justin Timberlake, or the weird marriage to Kevin Federline, Briney was quick to justify her behavior by saying, "I never really faced the reality, I just ran."  When asked why she let questionable people in her life to influence her decisions she said, "I don't know, I guess I was just all ALONE."

That's it.

It's all about loneliness.

I know we shouldn't get our moral truth from Britney Spears, but as I was cruising the news this morning, it just stuck out to me like a neon sign.

We were fashioned to be a people who care for each other.
We were made to live life together.
This idea that you have to pull yourself up by your bootstraps and prove something to the world, just isn't the way God created us.

Surely we need to work hard.
Yea, we need to be responsible to our actions.
But we also need to recognize the vital importance of knowing and being known.

Life wasn't made for you to be known.
It was made for Us to experience it.

Life can't center around an ego-centric story for very long.
It was made for us to learn and experience each other.

True intimacy isn't about how many albums you can put out.
It's not about the amount of $'s in the bank account.
Surely it can't be about those crazy paparazzi people snapping picture of you.
Britney found out about that!

It's about Loving.

It's about loving God with everything you got, and inviting people to join you along the way.
It's the great road trip together.

Maybe today we can re-think our stagnant existence alone, and start realizing the importance of having people in our spheres of influence that can enjoy life along the way!!!

Don't try to do it alone….

For if Britney Spears can be alone in the midst of all the public eye, and still be sad in life; just know it's not about fame, fortune, money, or status.

May you not be alone today.

  1. any progress on that book? just let me know if you need a ghost writer! You gotta push that one out. the youth culture is screamin’ for it, even though it’s a tough one to market.

  2. I like how you mentioned loneliness, and its importance in today’s culture, but I believe that you may have undermined its true severity. I will go as far as to say that loneliness is the greatest fear of all mankind, for all of human history. Why, however, would that be true? What is loneliness?

Let me know what you think
